this weekend @ sfbc - August 30th

sfbc family,

We will host 5th Quarter this Saturday night following the LaRue County Football game. Students will have a time to gather in the fellowship hall for food and games, then finish the evening with worship and a guest speaker in the sanctuary. Please pray for this event, Dewayne has challenged the our group to invite their friends and to see 300 students at worship Saturday night. What an opportunity to love kids and to share about Jesus! Contact DeWayne if you would like to help this weekend, Dewayne.gibson@larue.kyschools.us.

I read this recently, about dying churches.

Darryl Dash writes that every church is a dying church in one of three ways:
  • Some churches are literally dying. They are slowly losing people and will likely shut down.

  • Some churches are glitzy and successful. They look vibrant and alive, but they’re really only alive to themselves and their institution. They look alive, but they’re dying and they don’t know it.

  • Then there’s the church that could be big or small, glitzy or drab, that dies to itself daily – that has taken up the cross and is more concerned with following Christ, no matter what the costs.

All churches are dying. Only the third type of church, however, will experience a resurrection. What kind of church are we? Great Question. . . .

We will finish the Jonah series this Sunday. I hope you have been blessed by it. Did you write your second chance with God story and share it with someone this week? I hope you did, if not, remember, it is not too late! That maybe your story, I forgot to write mine, so God gave me a second chance to write it and share it with someone! Try it, you'll be amazed at peoples response.

See you this weekend @ sfbc
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - August 23rd

sfbc family,

Couple of things are always true about our ministry at South Fork. There is always something to do and there are always some adjustments to be made.

It is a busy weekend . . . beginning with a work/clean up day. You may not realize but we depend greatly on volunteers to occasionally come to do the extra maintenance in our buildings and around our campus. Light bulbs need replaced, walls need extra cleaning, things need moved, equipment needs installed. These are not difficult tasks but take time, a valuable commodity these days. Would you please invest a little time in helping your church do the routine things that keep our building and grounds in great shape this Saturday. You connect people to Jesus by helping us care for the facility God has given us. We need you. If you can wash a wall, move a table, throw away some trash, we need you. Simply put we need everyone who can to help.

Crazy Love small group sign ups begin on Sunday. These small groups will meet for 10 weeks and study the book "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan. Several people in our church have already read or our currently reading this book. It is a great study and I highly recommend it. The small groups will meet in homes or at South Fork. They will watch the Crazy Love DVD and discuss the chapter for that week. This will be a don't miss opportunity for you to grow in your walk with Christ and in your relationship to your group. Groups will be available for students through senior adults. The last date to sign up will be September 13th. Books will be available on Sunday at the welcome center and cost $12. Sign up for a small group and pick up Crazy Love you won't regret it.

Sunday night our students will share their MFUGE mission reports. The effect of MFUGE this summer can still be seen in our students and church. I am really looking forward to this service and encourage you to be sure to attend Sunday night at 6pm. Thank you for loving and supporting our students. This is going to be a special year for this ministry.

Last night, we were packed with so many people involved in Ministry. There were 96 who attended AWANA and 117 in student worship, overall our attendance Wednesday night hit about 240. Absolutely, awesome. We need to recognize how blessed we are to have the people who serve and attend on Wednesday nights. Thank you all who support, serve, attend on Wednesdays! If you haven't attended lately, come join us this week. God is doing exciting things at South Fork!

Please say a prayer for our new college students. Some have already started classes, and others will leave today or tomorrow to begin classes next week. Please pray for them and while you are at it pray for the parents of these students too. . . thanks.

Sunday, we will be in week 3 of Jonah, the sermon is titled "Never too Late".
Hope to see you this weekend @ sfbc
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - August 16th

sfbc family,

Crazy Love has struck at South Fork. I hear of someone new reading this book each time I am at church. The book by Francis Chan has made a powerful impact on my life and I am hearing many of you say the same thing as you read it. Crazy Love is going to be our fall theme at South Fork. What does this mean?

First, we are encouraging everyone to be involved in a Crazy Love Small group. Small groups will meet for a DVD study weekly for 10 weeks. Groups will meet both at church and in host homes. Our goal is to have at least 10 groups with 10 people in each group. These will be life stage groups for example students will be in group with students, senior adult with senior adults.

Second, there will be a Crazy Love Ministry project this fall to allow us to demonstrate Crazy Love, you are just going to have to wait for all the details.

Third, there will be a Crazy Love kick off night on September 13th at 7pm. Even if you aren't planning to join a small group, everyone should attend this night. Small groups will begin meeting the week following this kick off!

We will have Crazy Love books available to purchase at the welcome center soon. The book will be $12. There will also be t-shirts available to promote this emphasis that have Crazy Love on the front, and "experience it @ sfbc" on the back.

Why should be involved? Jesus said, "we were to love God with everything we are" that means followers of Christ are Crazy in Love with God and this changes everything! We love God because He love us first and we demonstrate that love to the world. Give this a try and see if God might use it to bring renew to your heart and revival to our church. This study will be the most important thing we or you do this fall.

Sunday, we will be in week 2 of Jonah, the sermon is titled "In Too Deep".
Hope to see you this weekend @ sfbc
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - August 9th

sfbc family,

It's today. Returning to school, well, it is today in LaRue County. Where did the summer go?

Pray for students today. Pray that they will adjust to their new schedules, pray that they will have a great and safe school year. Pray for teachers. Pray that our students will make an great impact for Christ during this school year. Our student ministry is an the verge of exploding in growth. I believe we are ready to make a real difference for Christ through our students. We could easily see 100 students in Bible Study (Sunday School) this fall and see our Wednesday worship attendance reach 150 or more. These are not out of the reach, impossible goals. We have passionate leader, a great group, and parents who are involved. everything is ready. Pray that today are students will begin not only a journey in another year of education but a year of living for Christ!

Kids Choir did a great job Sunday night with the musical, " I am a Promise". Thank you Randy and Machelle for working this summer with our children. I hope you are excited to see so many kids and youth at our church each week. We are seeing new families each week who are looking for a church with active youth and children's ministry. We are blessed to be able to provide these ministries and have a church that supports them so well. Thank you for loving kids at South Fork.
I want to encourage you to join a small group Bible Study. There are several options for groups. First, is Sunday School. We have Sunday School class for all age groups and life stages. These classes meet each Sunday morning at 10am. Second, in September we will offer several small groups that will meet at different times during the week and in different locations. The groups will be studying the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan. Our goal is to have 10 groups with 8 - 10 people in each group. We will begin with a Crazy Love Kick off on a Sunday night in September to form our groups. Then groups will meet for 10 weeks. These should be awesome times of sharing, studying, and fellowship. They don't replace Sunday School but do offer additional opportunities for growth.

Schedule Change
Men's Prayer Group meets tonight. There has been a change in the schedule. Please meet at the church at 6pm.

Hope to see you this weekend,
Bro Norm
