this weekend @ sfbc - July 11th

sfbc family,

Thank you for another great picnic and 4th of July celebration. We had a great time last Sunday night at Sportsman's Lake. There are many people who helped to make the night a fun time for our church family. Thank you to everyone who set up or cleaned up, cooked, or worked with the fireworks. Thank you for bring your family and friends it was a great crowd and several people have shared with me this week how much they enjoyed the fireworks.

this weekend @ sfbc - July 4th

sfbc family,

Happy Independence Day weekend! Our 4th of July celebration and picnic will be held on July 4th at Sportsman's Lake in Hodgenville. Sportsman's Lake is on Campbellsville Road (Hwy 210) and is easy to find. This is a fun event for our church family and community. We will be grilling burgers and hot dogs. Please bring side a side dish, a dessert, a cooler of drinks, chips, anything that goes with a picnic. There will be games and fireworks at dusk. The picnic is a highlight of our summer and is always a don't miss event. If you would like to help grill please see Jeremy Hinton on Sunday morning and we will also need some help with clean up after the event and possibly on Monday see James Jeffries or Glen Howell to help with set up or clean up.

There will be both 8:30am and 11am worship on Sunday. I hope this will encourage you to attend and still have some time in the afternoon before the picnic. Please attend worship and Sunday School this week. Corporate Worship is so important to your walk with Christ, it causes us to focus and brings growth to our lives.

Students will be leaving for MFUGE on Monday morning and will be spending the week at Nashville at Missions Camp. There will be serve in areas through out the city, meet in small groups for devotion, and worship each evening. MFUGE can be a life changing event for our students. Thank you for providing the support necessary to send them, now we must pray each day that the impact will be great.

A bust weekend and week ahead but we wouldn't have it any other way.

See you this weekend @ sfbc!

We will be hosting a church and community Health Fair at South Fork on Saturday from 8am - noon. I hope you will stop by the church and check out the more than 30 vendors who will provide information, health checks, and some screenings, as well as some free give a ways. This is a project of our Health Ministry and a service to our church family and community. Be sure to stop by on Saturday morning.

We are only one week away from our 4th of July cookout and picnic at Sportsman's Lake in Hodgenville. This event is lots of fun, there will be games, food, and fireworks at dusk. Please bring coolers of drinks, side items for picnic, and desserts. We will be grilling burgers and hot dogs. Invite your friends and family, this is one of the most fun times we share as a church family.

Please see the poster located at the main bulletin board at church to see the needed classes to fill. You can sign up there or contact Sandy Kidd for your teaching packet and to prepare. We also need workers in music, crafts, class room assistants, etc. We need you, please step up and let's fill all the needs this weekend!

GA camp is this weekend. Girls will be leaving on Friday at 11:30am and will return Saturday evening. MFUGE is getting close as students will be leaving on July 5th. There is much to pray about at South Fork. Please say a special prayer for our church family and for Sunday's worship service.

this weekend @ sfbc - Florida Edition

sfbc family,

We will be heading back tomorrow (Thursday) from Florida. We have had a good week. Some down time and got to experience some refreshing preaching. Our kids have had a great time in the pool and a day at the beach. We attended the pastors conference on Monday and I attended the Tuesdays session of the Southern Baptist Convention. But the week has passed and we are ready to head home.

Much has happened during my absence, I have been hearing of members in the hospital and families having surgery. I also heard the attendance was very good for the 8:30am service thank you! I hope you will be at church on Sunday. It is Father's Day and should be a great time for worship. I will be back and be preaching from 1 Thessalonians 2, "some check marks for our families".

See you this weekend.
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - June 13th

SFBC Family,

We are heading to the Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando. My family, Dewayne's family and others from our church will be attending the pastor's conference on Monday. Savannah Hines will be serving as a National Panelist for WMU at the meeting!! The Convention is on Tuesday and could bring a resurgence in commitment to missions. One of the major topics of discussion is missions and how to increase our support and send more missionaries to the field. I pray that we as a church and convention will seek to take the name of Jesus to places it is not known. Pray for us that we will return fired up to serve and reach people in LaRue County and that the life impact will be long lasting. My family will be enjoying a few days of vacation before the convention and right after. If you have an emergency this weekend or next week please call our church office Pam will take great care of you and contact someone to serve or assist you.

Bro Jeremy Atwood will be preaching on Sunday. He will preach both the 8:30am and the 11am service. Please be sure to attend. He is an awesome preacher and friend. Jeremy was a member of our 2007 mission team to Africa. He is the former pastor at Bacon Creek, you will be blessed I promise.

We really need you to sign up for VBS. I looked tonight and noticed that we have several slots to fill. I know you have great intention about signing up and just forget, so we need you to stop by the VBS poster on the main bulletin board. Please see Sandy Kidd for information. We really, really need you!

Mission Organizations will meet on Sunday night at 6pm.

I will be back for Father's Day and look forward to sharing that day with our church family. Please do pray that the next week will be refreshing and a time of spiritual renewal for my family and others who will be at the conference.

Love and prayers
Bro Norm

We not only met the goal but greatly surpassed it and saw $6,510 given for this summers mission trip! Thank you South Fork Family, you are the best! Bro Norm and DeWayne.

this weekend @ sfbc - June 6th

sfbc family,

I would like to encourage you to attend and support our student ministry silent auction this Sunday night. The silent auction has been an annual event for our youth and always helps in a big way to provide funds for their summer mission trip. There will be a meal beginning at 5pm, items will be located around the fellowship hall to bid on, at the close of biding if you are the highest bidder you purchase the item, simple process and has been lots of fun in the past. This year it is even more important. Here's why . . . .

1. We are sending 95 students and chaperons to MFUGE. You read that right 95, it is not a typo. It will be one of the largest groups to attend MFUGE mission camp this summer. We try our best to help our students go to camp. They pay deposits and for a good portion of the trip, but there is still cost and we still need $5,000 to cover this trip, to provide transportation, and help students who can't pay as much as others.

2. MFUGE has been like a revival for our church. Students and adults return fired up about serving and worshipping God. We need to see that this as an eternal investment in the life of one of our youth.

3. Student Ministry is a big deal. Have you noticed the number of students and their families that attend because we invest in their family. It brings people to South Fork.

Please attend on Sunday night, give a donation, make a bid. Let me also encourage you to think about this, many times we attend the silent auction thinking I am going to get a bargain. I know we should be responsible with our finances, but this year instead of bidding $1 on an item, go ahead and start the bidding higher, maybe even what the item is worth. Why, remember what the auction is for missions. Let's not ask what it is going to cost but attend with the thought that together we can see God bless our church and students and meet a $5,000 goal to send our students to Nashville during July.

Thank you for your work on this years Memorial Day project. We were able to send 20 care packages to Marines in Matt Hanson's unit serving in Afghanistan and 2 care packages to Rob Selman serving in Kosovo. Thank you for providing items needed and the funds for shipping the boxes. Thank you Melinda Howell and others who packed the boxes and to Eric and Hazel Hinton who delivered them to the post office. Way to go South Fork family!

See you this weekend,
Bro Norm

Men's Prayer and Fellowship
Men's prayer group will meet tonight at 7pm at the home of Barry and Rita Eads. All men are encouraged and invited to attend.

MFUGE Silent Auction
There will be a silent auction fund raiser for MFUGE on Sunday, June 6th, beginning at 5pm in the church fellowship hall. We still need to raise funds for this mission trip. There are 95 students and leaders attending MFUGE this year in Nashville. It is a week of missions, worship, growth, and life change. We will have one of the largest groups in the nation participating this summer. Many times we attempt to get a "bargain" at a silent auction, let me encourage you instead of asking how cheap can I get something, ask how much can I give to help a student this summer. Let's see if we can meet a $5,000 goal for this auction. If you would like to donate a item for this auction please contact Dewayne or Theresa Banks.

this weekend @ sfbc - May 30th

sfbc family,

We need you at sfbc! I want to remind you that we do have activities on Wednesday nights this summer and that even though AWANA is out for the summer, we haven't shut down. The break is good for the AWANA workers but it is not intended to say you don't come to church on Wednesday for 2 months. It is to allow some refreshing by attending Bible Study, prayer meeting, or student worship, originally the intent was to bring us all together. In AWANA our goal is to share the importance of knowing God's word, because that is how we know Him. What does it say to our kids if we by example demonstrate that attendance in the summer is optional? We lead by example. There are activities for children, adults, students, and adults. I completely understand a break from so much hard work, but during the break adults please join us for prayer and Bible Study, it might just be more refreshing than you think.

This is from the newsletter this week, I hope you read it or have already . . . . .

Summer is here. Memorial Day is usually considered by many the beginning of summer. School will be out after Friday and many will be taking their vacations soon. So as summer starts let me ask you to please remember that the church needs you in many ways this summer.

South Fork needs you to pray everyday. Please pray for the church and its ministry each day. Even while you are on vacation, take a moment to thank God for your church and to bless your church family. Pray for our church mission trips, that people will trust Christ, that our attendance, giving, and participation would remain strong. We only go as far as your prayers!

South Fork needs you to attend faithfully. Please remember to attend on Sundays and Wednesdays. There are still activities each week at church, so often attendance is really down during the summer, but it doesn’t have to be that way. It just means continuing the habit of attending. Remember just showing up can be a blessing to those who serve our church family.

South Fork needs you to give consistently. We still have bills and expenses during the summer. With lower attendance, giving can take a dip. A dip that, we many times don’t make up. We need to be reaching our budget goals and I am afraid we take for granted that things will be fine. We also tend to spend more on ourselves during the summer and give little. This summer, if you are away for two Sundays for vacation remember to make up those weeks when you return to church. We have several things that need your giving to be consistent, things like VBS, AWANA preparations for the fall, MFUGE, mission trips all depend on you being faithful.

South Fork needs you to serve. We need Bible School workers. Sandy has a sign up poster at the main bulletin board. This is a great way to help reach children in our church and area. Please don’t wait until VBS to ask where you can help, sign up on Sunday. You can serve at the 4th of July picnic, with students, with children, or lead a Bible Study or class. There are so many areas, please be a servant this summer. Your church needs you . . . will you help?

Please participate in our Marine Care Box project for 3/6 Kilo serving in Afghanistan. As we approach Memorial Day, it reminds us of the great sacrifice that many have made serving our country and I am sure will cause our hearts to be heavy. This project is in honor of Matt Hanson and will be sent to his unit. One of Matt‘s friends was killed this past week in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Be sure to bring your items on Sunday. A list is available at the missions map or in our church office.

See you on Sunday

Bro Norm

Memorial Day Project
We will be sending "Care Packages" to 20 Marines in 3/6 Kilo, Matt Hanson's Unit. There will be a list of supplies needed available at the welcome center on Sunday and a tub located near the mission area to drop of items. We plan to ship the Care Packages around June 1st. Items are needed by Sunday, May 30th.

How can you help, several ways. Do a box, a family or person could actually do a box, be a leader in your class (volunteer to help get items), give funds designated for shipping, (cost $14 per box total $280), give funds to buy items (if you can't pick up some things give a designated donation and someone will pick them up), help us when we pack the Packages (more about this will be announced later), write a card to a Marine, a list of their names will be on the back of the items list. There are lots of ways to get involved. Melinda Howell is helping me with this, you can see her if you have any questions.

this weekend @ sfbc - May 23rd

sfbc family,

This Sunday, we will focus on our Student and Children's ministry. Sunday morning we will celebrate with the class of 2010. In the 11am service, we will introduce the senior class to our congregation, there are 23 students participating, just think about that 23 seniors! Awesome testimony to the blessing that God is pouring out in our student ministry. We will feature a video in both services and host a reception for the Senior Class from 4pm - 6pm on Sunday afternoon. Baccalaureate is also Sunday afternoon at 3pm at the Larue County High School.

On Sunday night, we will celebrate as our children's ministry has completed another year of AWANA. Sunday night, we will recognize our children and volunteers for a great year of ministry. AWANA attendance has averaged around 101 this year, we have been blessed with wonderful workers who serve and a committed team of people who have provided our AWANA meals Thank you doesn't seem like enough to say for all you do but Thank You for serving and your commitment each week.

So in total our Wednesday night student and children's ministry reaches over 200 people each week! And these kids and youth are not just future leaders for our community but the very ones that will lead and serve in our church. A great investment but a better return.

Speaking of investment, we will also be receiving a special offering for MFUGE on Sunday morning. There will be a offering envelope in your bulletin. On July 5th, 95 of our students and adults will travel to Nashville to serve on-mission. This offering helps with the cost of the trip, while some students are able to pay for the majority of their trip many can not and depend on your gifts to send them on-mission. This investment provides a life changing mission experience, teaching, worship, food, housing for the week, and transportation. This week has resulted in a powerful transformation for many of our students and is worth far more than what we can give. I have been suggesting that instead of giving each graduate a gift during the reception that you give an offering in their honor to MFUGE and just give a card that reads, in honor of you, I have given a special offering for MFUGE this year. A great investment but a better return.

See this weekend,
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - May 16th

sfbc family,

I am really looking forward to Sunday. I love to see our church family gather together to worship, grow, and serve. This Sunday, Bob and Bonnie Parker will be a big part of our worship services.

Bob and Bonnie have played such a huge part in me, I have been "wrecked" by their commitment to Jesus, their love for missions and Africa. Needless to say their impact on our church has been significant. I feel like they are more than a visiting missionary, I think of them as part of our church family. God called us to partner (see Philippians 1) with them and we have never looked back. We have been able to build churches, a pastors home, share the gospel with unreached people, teach children, support the daily work and the list keep growing. One major thing that will happen on Sunday is we will be sharing with Bob that we will be providing a water tower for Gallenshau. AWANA kids and others have raised the funds to provide the tower. Clean water is a must and a tower, is basically a tank that collects rain water runoff from the tin roof of the church. This tower will provide clean drinking water during the dry season. During both my trips to the area, we have been asked to provide water and pray for water. Last time, we prayed on Sunday and it rained on Monday. . . God is good . . . . had to stop for just a second . . . anyway, be sure to be at church on Sunday, they will be part of both services 8:30am and 11am.

Sunday night at 6pm, Sandy Cruse will be sharing about Springhaven Domestic Violence Program in Etown. I had a small part last year in a balloon ceremony and heard a woman share her story. There is much need for ministry in this area. You will hear not only what they do but how you can help. This is part of their Mother's Day awareness emphasis. I promise God will touch your heart listening to the story of Sringhaven.

Next Sunday is Senior Sunday at South Fork. We will recognize the Senior Graduates during the 11am worship service. It is always a great time as we feature our students who are about to start a new chapter in life. We also will receive the special MFUGE offering next Sunday. There will be an offering envelope in your bulletin. This offering has always been an important opportunity to give for our student mission trip this summer. Let me make a suggestion, for years our church family has given card to graduates, many that include cash during the evening reception. But now we have large graduating classes, people just can't do that for everyone. So, give one special gift to the MFUGE offering and write in your card for the graduates, I am proud of your commitment to Christ and I gave a gift in your honor to MFUGE. You will bless many this way. Of course, you can still do both.

Saturday at 3pm is the wedding of Emily Riggs and Corey Skaggs, you are invited.

Don't forget memorial day care package items are due on Sunday, May 30th.

See you this weekend,
Bro Norm

PS - Congratulations to Caleb and Leeann Ragland on the birth of a baby boy last night, Charlie Caleb Ragland, 8lbs. 6oz, 22 inches long!

Bob and Bonnie Parker
This Sunday morning, we we will host Bob and Bonnie Parker our mission partners in Africa. They are coming to share with us before their return to Ghana in June. This is always an inspiring Sunday and a great opportunity to hear what God is doing in West Africa. We partner with Seed Ministry providing support, planting churches, and sending teams. You will love Bob and Bonnie, please be sure to attend.

Springhaven Domestic violence Program
Sandy Cruse (who is one of our sfbc family) will be our Special Guest on Sunday Night at 6pm. Sandy will be sharing about Springhaven in Etown. You will learn what Springhaven does and ways to volunteer and give to assist this program. This is part of their Mother's Day emphasis on awareness of Domestic Violence. Please attend Sunday night at 6pm.

Class of 2010

We will be celebrating with our High School Graduates on Sunday, May 23rd. We will recognize them during morning worship and host a reception in the fellowship hall that afternoon from 4pm - 6pm. this weekend @ sfbc - May 9th

sfbc family,

Hope you have experienced a great week and are looking forward to a wonderful weekend that includes worship at South Fork on Sunday. Sunday was a challenge with all the rain and flooding. We learned much and there are many people who are facing a long clean up both locally and both Kentucky and Tennessee. Please pray for those still effected by this weeks flooding. For most of of us the worse part was being inconvenienced by roads that were closed or a canceled school day, remember it could have been much worse, we in fact are blessed.

The last couple of years, we have been doing Memorial Day projects as a way to remember those who are currently serving and those who have served in the Armed Forces. Last year, we gave 3 cases of Bibles that were shipped to our service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. This year Memorial Day (May 31st) takes a really personal turn for our congregation. Our project will be sending 20 Care Packages to 3/6 Kilo Marines serving in Afghanistan, Matt Hanson's unit. We have names of 20 Marines from Megan (Matt's sister) and will be collecting items and shipping them on June 1st. This will be a great project for a Sunday School class, student group, or even a children's class ( get the kids to write notes thanking them for serving). There will be a list of items that we will be collecting available on Sunday at the Welcome Center. A tub will be places near the mission area to drop off items. We will ship the packages in US postal boxes cost $14 each. I will be placing Bibles in each of the boxes, as well as a prayer letter from the church (we will be doing them on the next few Wednesday nights). Items will need to be at the church by May 30th. Let's do everything we can to make this a church wide project and care for Marines in 3/6 Kilo.

How can you help, several ways. Do a box, a family or person could actually do a box, be a leaders in your class (volunteer to help get items), give funds designated for shipping, (cost $14 per box total $280), give funds to buy items (if you can't pick up some things give a designated donation and someone will pick them up), help us when we pack the Packages (more about this will be announced later), write a card to a Marine, a list of their names will be on the items list. There are lots of ways to get involved. Melinda Howell is helping me with this, you can see her if you have any questions.

Sunday is Mother's Day, we will recognize Mom's in both services and have baby dedication at 11am. Should be a great Sunday of worship. There will be no services Sunday night. Please enjoy some time with your families.

Men's Prayer Fellowship is tonight 7pm at the home of Randy and Suzanne Hines. Men of all ages are welcome!

See you this weekend
Bro Norm

PS - please pray for Scott Cameron. His father Ed has been sick all week and having several tests. Then last night he received a call from Mississippi that his mother was is critical condition and on life support. Her name is Martha Anderson. Please remember Scott, Michelle, and John Calvin and their families.

this weekend @ sfbc - May 2nd

sfbc family,

The forecast for the weekend is calling for rain and lots of it. I am thankful for the rain, but I hope we experience a spiritual down pour this weekend. One that results in people lives being forever changed by Jesus. Will you pray with me for Sundays service?

There are lots of events in May, it is always an exciting month at South Fork.. I pray that you will invite your family and friends to attend with you. We best impact our community and grow our church by word of mouth. If you are inviting people to attend, they will and do. If you stop we don't grow. It is the easy conversation to say, where do you attend church and invite someone to attend with you. No pressure, no guilt, just invite. Please invite someone this week.

Thank you for participating in the MFUGE fund raiser at Paula's. It was a fun night and successful providing over $2,100 for MFUGE. During May, on Senior Recognition Day, May 23rd, we will receive a special offering to invest in our students this summer. We do this every year and encourage you to give a special donation to MFUGE in honor of our 2010 graduating class. There are so many graduates that it is impossible to give a financial gift to each of them, but it is possible to give a donation to MFUGE and write this in their card. In honor of your commitment and graduation, I have give a gift to help our students serve on mission this summer. This gift will impact many lives, it is always a week of renewal for our students, a week of salvation for some, and a week of serving on mission. This one week usually provides a significant impact to our students, their families, and our church. Please pray about giving a special gift to our student ministry on May 23rd.

On Sunday, we will be celebrating baptism again this week at 11am. If you would like to be baptized please contact me, I would love to talk with you about your commitment to Christ.

Please continue to pray for our Oneida Mission Team as they wrap up their week and return home tomorrow. I know they have been a blessing and have been blessed. It is strange that so many times you set out to be a blessing to someone and the result is that you receive a huge blessing. That is the way of the Kingdom. I hope you are looking for opportunities to bless others this week with the love of God.

See you this weekend!
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - April 25th

SFBC Family,

We have a great weekend a head. I am really looking forward to worship on Sunday with our church family.

On Saturday many of our church family will enjoy dinner at Paula's. The dinner proceeds go to support our student mission trip this summer as we send over 90 students and adults for a week of mission camp in Nashville. Thank you student ministry leaders and students for your hard work and commitment.

Sunday Clifton Phelps will be our special guest in both the 8:30am and 11am services. Clifton, his wife, and children are planning to move to India this August to work with church planters and teach the Bible. You will be blessed to hear about God's call and his passion to follow it.

We will celebrate baptism on Sunday during the 11am worship service. If you are thinking about following Christ by being baptized or would like to know more about trusting Christ, please send me an email, see me at church, or call me. I would love to be able to talk with you about your decision.

Our church will also be sending a mission team to Oneida on Sunday. This team will work at the school all next week. Please pray for their ministry as they serve on mission.

Our new two service schedule is working well. We are getting several good comments about it. I want to encourage you to attend worship and Sunday School this weekend and while you are at invite someone to attend with you!

See you this weekend!
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - April 18th

sfbc family,

I know its Spring, not because the grass is growing, the flowers are blooming, or the leaves have suddenly appeared on the trees. I know it is Spring because the church is busy with activity.

From now until Memorial Day there will be something special on a weekend that involves our church family. This Sunday at 11am, we will have some special guests, from the Lincoln Presenters who will share some special music and history with us. This Sunday the 8:30 and the 11 service will be really different. I am preaching at 8:30, at 11am it will be more of a devotional summary. Both services will be unique. The 8:30am service is off to a great start and our goal is to continue to see about 125 - 150 people attend that service. I believe this service could soon reach 200 in worship. Please be faithful to attend worship at sfbc each Sunday morning.

Here is a quick overview of coming Sunday activities

April 25th - Clifton Phelps, (Caleb's Brother), is our guest. 8:30am & 11am.

May 2nd - Larue County Sports Day - we will be recognizing winter and spring sports teams 11am.

May 9th - Mother's Day

May 16th - Graduate Day - High School Seniors during the 11am worship 11am

May 23rd - AWANA awards at 6pm

May 30th - Memorial Day

We will be busy but these will be good days. Please plan to faithfully attend each weekend.

One thing I would like to challenge you about is to support the MFUGE Fund Raiser at Paula's. We need to sell out the tickets this weekend. Dewayne is worried, so lets buy them all this Sunday. It supports our students, is a great meal, you can buy tickets as a gift. Tonya and I will be buying two extra and inviting a couple to attend with us. Please South Fork let's do this. Paula gives us her restaurant for a night each year to allow us to provide a wonderful dinner and everything given is for MFUGE. You might say $15 is a lot for a meal. But you aren't just getting a meal, you are investing in our Students. There are 3 times to choose from 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm. Let's do this for God, our students, and for missions. Let's also show Dewayne that he doesn't have to worry. He will be amazed. You can purchase tickets after either service this weekend.

See you on Sunday,
Bro Norm

MFUGE Dinner at Paula's - April 24th
There are a limited amount of tickets available for dinner at Paula's Hot Biscuit in Hodgenville. The tickets are $15 and the meal is Pork Tenderloin, sides, drink and dessert. Here is the great thing, the $15 dollars will be donated to our MFUGE Student Mission Trip. You have sittings to choose from 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm. Support our students, have a great meal and wonderful fellowship all at the same time. Please see Dewayne Gibson or Theresa Banks to buy a ticket(s).

Card Team / Welcome Team Meeting Sunday night
Those who signed up for or would like to serve in either of these ministries. Please attend a team meeting on April 18th at 7pm. We will meet in the AWANA room.

Lynn Association WMU Meeting
We will host the WMU quarterly meeting on Tuesday, April 20th at 7pm. We will be providing a meal for those attending, a potato bar and desserts. Please see Melissa Adams, Doris Jean Holleran, or Norma Jean McDonald for more information. All women are invited.

Class of 2010
We will be celebrating with our High School Graduates on Sunday, May 16th. We will recognize them during morning worship and host a reception in the fellowship hall that afternoon.
