this weekend @ sfbc - January 31st

sfbc family,

Well, we are at it again trying to guess the amount of snowfall for tomorrow. I will guess somewhere between 1 and 24 inches. It would be a safe guess I think, as long as there is no ice, I'll be good. Just a reminder we will have services on Sunday. If you can safely get to church please attend. It will be a good day of worship, we will clear the parking lot and walks at church. I hope to see you.

There are lots of things to look forward to for February. Sweethearts banquet will be February 6th at 6pm. The theme is dinner and a movie. This is a fun filled night and a good night to bring another couple who might not go to church or who might be new at South Fork. You don't have to be a member to attend, so bring a guest couple with you. The meal is catered by Heartland Catering and is worth the price. we have even assisted this year by reducing the price to $16 or $8 per person. The meal normally is $26 per couple, we hope the reduced cost will encourage you to attend. After dinner we will watch the movie, "No Greater Love". "No Greater Love" is a feature film about a broken marriage, a sovereign God, and a life-changing love . . . to see the trailer click here http://action.afa.net/videos/NoGreaterLove/. Sunday is the last day to sign up, please do so at the welcome center (you can call the church on Friday or email me or Pam to sign up).

February 21st, we will host Terry and Barbi Franklin from Nashville for a Family Concert. Terry and Barbi lead worship and share about God's grace for family and marriage events around the world. This year they will be leading worship at the Ky Baptist Convention Evangelism Conference and we are the church in Ky that will host them just prior to that conference at Severns Valley. Terry sang with the Gaither Vocal Band and is a Dove Award winning artist, this is a unique opportunity for our area and church. Please be sure to attend this event at South Fork! Here is their web site http://www.heartfortheworld.com/.

Hey, I and we need your help. If you know of someone who has just started attending our church please send me their name, number, and email. This will greatly help me in getting to know people. We all need to do a better job of introducing people to each other. Speaking of contacts could you help us by contacting people who have been missing church. Think about those who sit around you on Sundays and that person who has been out a couple of weeks give them a call and send me an email. I really want to step up our contacting of people who are new and are missing. By the way, please don't become one of the "missing", see Hebrews 10:25.

Be sure to attend the Dinner Play production by the Africa Mission Team this Sunday beginning at 5pm. It is a good way to support this mission team and your presence means as much as anything. If you would like to give to help the Africa Team or MFUGE this year special offering envelopes are available at the welcome center and mission area. Thanks for all you do to help our church be an Acts 1:8 church.

If you are interested in leading a Bible Study or small group on Sunday night, from 6pm - 7pm please contact me. I would love to offer several small group Bible Studies on Sunday evenings but need people who would like to lead them.

See you this weekend,
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - January 24th

sfbc family,

It's raining this morning. It feels like the world is sad. In away it is, the Bible tells us in Romans 8:22 - 24; 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. These verses describe a "longing" for Christ, for we knowing that when we are in His presence or that He returns things will be different. There will be no sin, no pain, no suffering, no death. We look ahead with a heart full of hope because, we know that promises of God are true and that there is coming a day when God will wipe away all our tears. I am reminded of this groaning, when I look at the news and see the images of the suffering and death in Haiti. I am reminded of this groaning when I walk into the hospital and see sickness and pain. When I visit with a family who are overcome with the sorrow of loss. We groan for heaven. So, He gives us hope in Christ. These things do not mean that God is absence, oh no, they remind us how much we need Him! We need Him to care for us in the difficult moments of life, we all have them and we all need Him. We need His promise of hope, the comfort of His presence, and His grace to help us through the next moment. Yes, we need Him and He is there, In our sorrow, we groan looking for the day when these things will be removed and Christ will rule.

I was reminded last night, as I saw both grief and hope in Harold's McDowell family. Hurt but with hope. I will miss Harold, God used him greatly in giving me the assurance to come to South Fork. He was a source of support and encouragement to me personally. I know that his family while hurt are filled with the hope of Christ and look forward to a day of reunion (see 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 18). Pray for the family, pray for our church, and groan with this world, as each day we live with eyes fixed toward heaven and a heart filled with hope.

Love and prayers
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - January 17th

SFBC Family,

There are lots of announcements and events below (and I want you to read them) so I am going to make this quick. I am thankful for all of you. Your desire to serve, give, to do whatever it takes to Connect People to Jesus is amazing. Thank you for all you do to make South Fork an awesome church!

My heart has been wrenched by the pictures from Haiti. Haiti is one of the poorest places on earth and is filled with lostness and people who need a relationship with Christ. Now they are in the midst of what may just be the worst earthquake in modern history. Southern Baptist are mobilizing relief efforts and I become aware of the way we could help, I will let you know. Now I would encourage you to pray for the people of Haiti and the people that are being sent as first responders to this disaster.

After meeting this week with deacons and staff, the plans for a great Spring and Summer at South Fork have are in place, hope you are ready, we are in for a great time!

See you Sunday,
Bro Norm

this weekend @ sfbc - January 10th

SFBC Family,

As I type this morning it looks like the snow is on the way. School is out and the forecast is for some significant snow fall. If you get a snow day, enjoy.

I hope you are reading through the New Testament this year. It is encouraging to hear from those who are using the plan. Heard this week of another church in our association who is also using this plan and reading the New Testament through, I am excited anytime I hear people are reading their Bibles. I would love to hear if you are following the plan and what you think about it. All I want is people to read the word. It will change your life. Also, it is not too late to start. Today's reading is Mark chapter 4, there are no reading assignments for Saturdays or Sundays, so you can catch up quickly. If you would like a copy emailed to you send me an email and I will get it to you today.

It was good to be back on a regular Wednesday schedule last night. AWANA was busy as usual and their were 116 that attend student worship. Our Wednesday attendance is unbelievable. Total attendance each Wednesday night tops 200 every week, with many weeks we will see at least 240 people attend. Lots of churches would love to have that attendance for Sunday Morning!

One of our students was leaving practice after school this week. Some other kids were talking and he over heard their conversation. They were talking about a "Jesus Revolution" going on. That is great news to hear, but as Paul Harvey would say here is the rest of the story, our student continues to listen in and the others kids say, "yeah, down at South Fork." That is cool. We want to connect people in our community to Jesus and to have one of our kids over hear others talking about what is happening at our church is just a God sized blessing! Ok, you can stop shouting now and pray that God will bring a "Jesus Revolution" to our County and that He would bless us to be part of it.

We don't typically cancel services due to the weather. We had a service last year after the ice storm with no electricity. About 80 people attended. We have services, so if you can get to church please do attend. But don't risk anything, we leave that decision to you. If there were a cancelation best way to find out is email, facebook, or call us. By the way, we have a South Fork Facebook page. You can follow us by becoming a fan of South Fork on Facebook. It has announcements, prayer requests, and event posts during the week. Try it out.

Enjoy the snow, it will be gone before you know it.

See you this weekend,
Bro Norm

Men's Prayer Group Postponed until next week
Due to the snow Men's prayer group will be held next Thursday night, January 14th, 7pm at the home of Charles and Brenda Miller.

Christmas Decoration Removal this Saturday morning
The church is wonderfully decorated for Christmas, thanks to a great team of people who came and gave a Saturday morning to serve. We need you again, on Saturday, January 9th, 8am. We will be removing and storing the Christmas decoration. While this is not as fun as seeing them go up, it is really important that several people help. Please do help us with this project. Melinda Howell who leads our decorating team, had surgery after Christmas and will need extra help, so please plan on attending to help Melinda and our church.

Offering Envelopes for 2010
