this weekend @ sfbc - January 24th

sfbc family,

It's raining this morning. It feels like the world is sad. In away it is, the Bible tells us in Romans 8:22 - 24; 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. These verses describe a "longing" for Christ, for we knowing that when we are in His presence or that He returns things will be different. There will be no sin, no pain, no suffering, no death. We look ahead with a heart full of hope because, we know that promises of God are true and that there is coming a day when God will wipe away all our tears. I am reminded of this groaning, when I look at the news and see the images of the suffering and death in Haiti. I am reminded of this groaning when I walk into the hospital and see sickness and pain. When I visit with a family who are overcome with the sorrow of loss. We groan for heaven. So, He gives us hope in Christ. These things do not mean that God is absence, oh no, they remind us how much we need Him! We need Him to care for us in the difficult moments of life, we all have them and we all need Him. We need His promise of hope, the comfort of His presence, and His grace to help us through the next moment. Yes, we need Him and He is there, In our sorrow, we groan looking for the day when these things will be removed and Christ will rule.

I was reminded last night, as I saw both grief and hope in Harold's McDowell family. Hurt but with hope. I will miss Harold, God used him greatly in giving me the assurance to come to South Fork. He was a source of support and encouragement to me personally. I know that his family while hurt are filled with the hope of Christ and look forward to a day of reunion (see 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 18). Pray for the family, pray for our church, and groan with this world, as each day we live with eyes fixed toward heaven and a heart filled with hope.

Love and prayers
Bro Norm
