this weekend @ sfbc - September 27th





SFBC Family,

The Bible tells us that Christ has made us free. We have been freed from the the slavery that sin brings to our lives. Because we are free we choose to live for Him. While, we are free from sin to live for Christ, the Bible, also reminds us not to allow our freedom to be an excuse for our sin (1 Peter 2:16). An example would be, I can do anything I want since God has or will forgive me. The correct thought is because I have experienced God's love, grace. and mercy and I am free from condemnation (Romans 8) I will live to bring glory to Him! Crazy Love Chapter 2 reminds us to make our lives count for the glory of God. Life is but a vapor, God has lavished His love on us, let us live to reveal His grace and glory to our world. You are free, live for Him today!

Reminding everyone to please attend this weekend. Sunday will be a special day. We are encouraging High Attendance in Sunday School and asking that everyone attend morning and evening worship. We are praying for a great day of renewing our focus on Christ and our mission . . . Connecting People to Jesus.Let's reach 250 this weekend in Sunday School. Get Connected to a Sunday School class this weekend. There are many options to choose from and classes for all ages. If you are looking for class stop by the welcome center for a list of classes, teachers, and rooms.
Jimmy Disney from Two Rivers Baptist Church will be our special guest. Evening worship will be at 7pm (this will allow Crazy Love Groups to meet early and attend evening worship)

Eliza Broadus Mission offering for Kentucky
Sunday, September 13th will begin a week of prayer for missions in Kentucky. This week Baptist all across Kentucky will be praying for missionaries and ministries that reach out to the ethic groups and unreached people right here at home. Kentucky has a great number of unreached people and people who have been in church at some point in their lives and have left the church, many of these people have never truly trusted Christ. There will be a prayer guide in this weeks bulletin and offering envelopes in the pews. Please pray for missions in Kentucky and give so that we might reach our state for Christ. Sunday School Teachers / Leaders Meeting
All teachers and workers please meet with Bro Norm on Sunday, September 27th, at 9am. We will have a light (donuts, pastries, juice, and coffee) breakfast. Then we will begin our meeting at 9:15am. You will be dismissed to allow you to be in your classroom at 9:45am.

this weekend @ sfbc - September 20th

"Like Mike I want to be like Mike" . . . remember that Nike commercial. Michael Jordan is possibly the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. Recently, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame along with David Robinson, Jerry Sloan, John Stockton, and C. Vivian Stringer. Induction in to the hall of fame is a huge honor for anyone. Each person inducted into the hall of fame shares a speech mostly thanking the people in their lives that helped them and reflecting on their career. Kind of a time to remember and counting blessings. This year there was a remarkable difference between the speeches shared by Michael Jordan and David Robinson, one was humble, an expression of thanksgiving, an example of faith, and the other expressed self and an emptiness that things can not fill.
Voddie Baucham recently wrote about this in his blog. Here is a quote and a link to the article . . . worth reading even if you don't like basketball (might be sin in Kentucky). Be like David not like Mike. Amen Voddie . . .

There was a stark difference between the two acceptance speeches. As I listened to the two speeches, all I could think of was the old commercial catchphrase, “Like Mike... If I could be like Mike.” Unfortunately, in this instance, Mike was the last person anyone should aspire to be like. This was definitely not a Michael Jordan highlight. Jordan’s Speech was self-centered, indulgent, arrogant, and at times embarrassing. In contrast, David Robinson rose to the occasion and made a brief, inspiring, encouraging speech that made his family, his team, and his friends proud.

Crazy Love Groups start today. The first small group meets this morning and tonight. Please pray for these groups and pray that God will do great things as participate in this study as individuals, groups, and the church. One Great Day is coming, September 27th. We hope to have people get connected to a Sunday School class and have a great attendance. We will also have a special guest speaker, Jimmy Disney from Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville. Jimmy will be preaching in both services on the 27th. Please help our church make this One Great Day by praying, attending, and inviting others to come with you.
No Pizza or putt-putt on Sunday, but we will talk about Jesus.

Lynn Association Thank You
Thank you to everyone who helped with Lynn Baptist Association Meeting this week. Thank you for serving in many areas, we had people attend the meeting, serve as greeters, bring food, , serve during the meal, clean up, and run the sound. Thank you everyone for a job well done.

this wekend @ sfbc - Sept. 13th



sfbc family,

On September 27th, our church will host One Great Day, a revival and outreach effort to encourage increased attendance and to renew our commitments. It will be a high attendance day in Sunday School, as we are asking that each person and every classes seek to encourage others and invite them to join them for Bible Study. It will also be a special day as Jimmy Disney from Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville will be our guest speaker. Jimmy serves in Men's ministry at Two Rivers and is part of their preaching team. He spoke at South Fork in one of the last Wired Wednesdays about the clay and the potter, a message that was one of the best I heard during those summer services. You will be blessed on that day. Just a couple of things need to happen. First, we need you to be here. Please plan on attending, rather than ask you to attend several services, we choose to ask you to attend one day. Please commit to be here. Second, invite someone. Bring a guest with you that day, take them to Sunday School, sit with them during worship, and then out to lunch. Maybe God will give you a chance to talk with them about Jesus that day. Pray for God to move us in ridding our lives things that hinder our closeness and walk with Him. Pray that this might be a day of revival and renewal. God is going to bless this day, let me encourage you to get in on it.

Thank you for the Birthday surprise fellowship. Much planning had to be done and secrets held. It did work, I had no idea there would be anything at church like that. Thanks you to everyone who helped this be a fun day for me. To have several family members and friends join us was emotional and then to be blessed by your love and support was humbling. Thank you for each note, card, and gift. We love you all. Thanks for making this birthday one I will never forget.

Crazy Love Kick-Off this weekend
Our fall theme is Crazy Love experience it @ sfbc! South Fork is a great place to fall in love with God and His mission of telling others about Christ. We are offering small group Bible Studies based on the book Crazy Love, there will be groups meeting on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights with a ladies group meeting on Thursday mornings. Everyone please attend the kick off on Sunday night. Join a group, pick up a copy of the book to read, get a t shirt, but most importantly pray that we will be people "Crazy in Love" with God and that it might show up "big" in how we live and how we love.

Lynn Baptist Annual Meeting
The Annual meeting will be on Monday, September 14th at Aetna Grove Baptist Church and on Tuesday, September 15th at South Fork. We need several people to serve as messengers (voting representatives) for the Lynn Baptist Association Annual meeting. To serve as messenger please sign up at the welcome center or see Bro Norm.
We will be providing a meal for about 150 people on the Tuesday session of the Annual Meeting. The church will be providing chicken and drinks. Please drop off a side dish and dessert on Tuesday, September 15th at 6pm.

Children's Church change - Reminder
We will be offering a children's church sessions for preschoolers each Sunday morning. The children will be dismissed from worship after the children's sermon. The Children's sermon is for any child preschool - 2 grade. Children ages 3 - pre K will be dismissed to children's church and children who are in school (Kindergarten and up) will remain in the worship service. There are two reasons for this change, the number of workers to the number of kids and we believe that it is important for families to worship together. Children may pick up at Children's worship bulletin at the Welcome Desk. Children who complete their bulletin can return it to the welcome center. We will draw one each month for a special gift.

this wekend @ sfbc - September 6th


SFBC Family,

No need to think small . . . especially when it comes to what God can do. The God, we know and serve is a God who is able! Ephesians 3:20 - 21 says . . . to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

God is and has been doing amazing things at South Fork. This is the time of year that we prepare a report for our local association. We tally up numbers, while numbers will not tell a the story of God's work and should not be used to determine success, they do help us to recognize His blessings. During the past year, we saw more people participate in missions than ever before participate in missions, we saw student and children's ministry begin to explode, saw a excitement and growth through the production of the Christmas Musical. We got to see 46 people baptized and 35 more people join our church family. Get this, offerings and giving increased! Many will say I can't believe it in this economy. Yes, God blessed us to see over $327,000 given to our general budget and another $136,000 given as designated funds. This means, God blessed and trusted us with a total of $463,000 toward ministry and missions. God is able and awesome. He provides, He saves, He heals, He guides, He blesses . . .

But these numbers don't tell the story of changed lives. Look around on Sunday, if you look close enough you will see that person whose life has been so touched by the hand of God, that they are an expression of His love and our loving thankful. Some one will say but the church is too big. The church in Acts had over 3,000 people saved at one time. Not everyone knew each other, they even had issues taking care of each other (that is where deacon's come in, Acts 6) but they worked for one purpose to see the gospel preached and people changed. They met in homes and in small groups to serve and to care, (good place to mention Sunday School), and they gathered to hear teaching and preaching and to pray and worship (Acts 2). Sure you can argue the blessings of small, but my God is a big God no use to think small, dream big. . . and see what God just might do!

I am thankful for you and God's blessing in our church.

Crazy Love Small Group Study coming in September
Small Group Bible Study will be forming soon! Small Group sign ups will last until September 13th. Crazy Love books can be purchased at the Welcome Center, for $12 and Crazy Love T -shirts are available for $6.

2010 Africa Missions Meeting

Tuesday, September 8th. There is a meeting of those who will be committing to participate in the Fall 2010 mission trip to Ghana, West Africa. This will be our 4th trip to serve, train, and reach many who have never heard the message of Christ in Africa. If you would like more information please see Machelle McDowell on Sunday.
